The Information Security Forum's (ISF) has released version III of its legal repository, bringing together laws relevant to information security and professional legal interpretations.
Information security practitioners need to identify individual laws relevant to the event they are analyzing. The ISF repository is intended to answer such questions as: "Show me all the privacy laws for Canada and Germany", says Andy Jones, senior research consultant, ISF.
Beware! You may never know you are part of a global invasion of the system snatchers.
Infosecurity Europe 2006 is a mammoth trade show sprawled across the carpet tiles of Olympia and the surrounding mezzanine like a giant pulsating blanket.
Black-t-shirted techies rub shoulders with the world’s infosec elite, while gift-girlies pounce on the unsuspecting to offer carrier bags, sweets, memory sticks and hosts of giveaways emblazoned with company logos.
Sending an email asking for somebody’s back account logon details is such a simple idea – no wonder more than 13,000 such message were created in March 2005 alone, with each one sent to thousands if not millions of people. The emails directed the receiver to one of 2870 brand-new websites where bank account and other financial details were collected.
By 2007, 20 million people in Europe will be teleworking, taking the enterprise boundary with them. Federated access rights will lower risk and give managers the whip hand.
As society goes through changes in demographics and technology, so work patterns evolve to accommodate them. Cheaper and more reliable communications makes outsourcing an option, not just for global firms, but for small ones too. An ageing workforce means paternal leave will take skilled workers out of the office, and flexible working will become enshrined in European law. Even so, weary commuters will demand cleaner and easier routes to work that involve climbing the stairs, not queuing on the M25.
If the car you purchased two weeks ago were stolen because you failed
to update the lock and key system, you would surely feel angry.
Preparing your workforce for mobility is equally frustrating: even if a
product has built-in security, it is often insufficient for your
business needs, or you find that its expert configurations are
unsuitable for home users.
